Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy as Promising Method for Studying Cognitive Functions in Children

نویسندگان

چکیده

The description of new promising method functional neuroimaging, near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), is presented. General information on tomography and its features in children are given. Brief the history fNIRS development, itself, advantages disadvantages covered. implementation areas science clinical practice clarified. described, role this among others determined. It was noted that significantly complements other research diagnostic methods, including magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, induced potentials, thereby expanding range scientific issues can be solved by neuroimaging.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy studies in children

Psychosomatic and developmental behavioral medicine in pediatrics has been the subject of significant recent attention, with infants, school-age children, and adolescents frequently presenting with psychosomatic, behavioral, and psychiatric symptoms. These may be a consequence of insecurity of attachment, reduced self-confidence, and peer -relationship conflicts during their developmental stage...

Evidence of cognitive activity in functional near infrared spectroscopy signal

We show that functional near infrared spectroscopy signals can monitor task-related cerebral hemodynamic response. We detect periodicities in the near infared spectroscopy signals and show that the estimated periods are consistent across multiple detectors and subjects, despite the jittered periodicity of the stimuli sequence that is used in a target categorization experiment. ©2003 American So...

Exploring Cognitive Functions in Babies, Children & Adults with Near Infrared Spectroscopy.

An explosion of functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) studies investigating cortical activation in relation to higher cognitive processes, such as language, memory, and attention is underway worldwide involving adults, children and infants with typical and atypical cognition. The contemporary challenge of using fNIRS for cognitive neuroscience is to achieve systematic analyses of data s...

Bundled-Optode Method in Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

In this paper, a theory for detection of the absolute concentrations of oxy-hemoglobin (HbO) and deoxy-hemoglobin (HbR) from hemodynamic responses using a bundled-optode configuration in functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is proposed. The proposed method is then applied to the identification of two fingers (i.e., little and thumb) during their flexion and extension. This experiment i...

brain near-infrared spectroscopy (nirs)

near-infrared spectroscopy (nirs) is a spectroscopic method that uses the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. typical applications include medical and physiological diagnostics. nirs can be used for non-invasive assessment of brain function through the intact skull in human subjects by detecting changes in blood hemoglobin concentrations associated with neural activity, e.g., ...
